Since 1917, Lions Clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their community. Members are involved in a wide variety of projects ranging from local community efforts to far-reaching to bring sight to the blind. Lions clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community.

The Lions Club of Algonquin was Incorporated September 18, 1939. The club raises funds for charitable works through the Algonquin Lions Foundation. These works include scholarships for local students, support of local food banks, vision and hearing care for our community in need, and much more.

One of the legacy projects of this Lions Club is the Lions Armstrong Swimming Pool in Algonquin. The Lions Club of Algonquin starting in 1962 raised the money to build the swimming pool. It is the only public swimming pool in Algonquin. After many years of managing and maintaining the swimming pool the facility was donated to the Village of Algonquin. This was necessary to keep the cost of liability insurance for the swimming pool under control.

The pool is home to the Trails of Algonquin Swim Team. The Lions Club provides Lions Club members to provide the labor for the swim meets concession stand when swim meets are hosted at the pool.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
