HISTORY
The Austin Capital City Lions Club in Austin, Texas provided an opportunity for women to become involved in humanitarian service through LIONISM November 12, 1977(certified). Lion G.W. McConico was founder and assisted by Lioness Cecile Banks. The Austin Capital City Lioness/Lions Club grew out of the Capital City Lioness Club that was chartered in 1977. The body voted on May 12, 2004 at the home of Lioness Gertrude E. Britton to become a Lions Club. The founders were Lion Willie Hargrove and Lion Clarence McClure assisted by Lion Albert Walker. Twenty-nine members make up the original roster as CHARTER MEMBERS, namely: Estella Akins Bea Della Jones Shirley Alexander Lillian Kerley Patsy Anderson Nuralee Lee Cecile Banks Maydee Lindsey Bessie Barrow Jewell Massie G.E. Britton Susie Mayo Mayes Roberta Calahan Maxine McClure Lola Carter Petronella McConico Billie N. Chambers Evelyn McKee Bettye Damon Mable Myers Etta Ferguson Carolyn Rigby Angela Glascoe Maery Lou Street Clara Hunt Doris Wilhite Shirley Jenson Etta Winchester The Austin Capital City Lioness Club was chartered as Austin Capital City Lioness/Lions Club on June 23, 2004 at the Fellowship Hall of Wesley United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas. Later, the club changed its name to Austin Capital City Evening Lions Club.
