2009-2010 Officers

The Cookeville Evening Lions Club was established in April 1922.  In the beginning our club provided many of the services that the Chamber of Commerce now provide.  In 1925, Helen Keller spoke at the International Lions Convention where she charged the members to become "Knights of the Blind." Since then, our primary mission is to help prevent blindness. In 2008-09, our club had the following accomplishments related to this mission:

  • 1432 Children age 0-6 years old were screened as a part of our Kids Sight Screening.
  • 132 adults and 1 child was approved to receive an eye examination and glasses (if needed) free of charge as a part of our Sight Service Committee.
  • Over 4000 pairs of used glasses were collected and send to be refurbished.

Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
