The Ottawa South Lions Club has been serving the Nation’s Capital for over 50 years.  Part of  Multiple District "A", in District A4, the club was sponsored by the Ottawa Central Lions and chartered on March 21, 1956.  Since that time, Ottawa South has sponsored the establishment of 3 new area clubs:  Cumberland, Nepean, and Ottawa East/Eastview.  Two club members have received Melvin Jones Fellowship awards, and several are life members.

 

Past Service Highlights:

 

  • Provided the initial funding ($30,000) for the Mooney’s Bay Sports Complex, now operated by the City of Ottawa as the Terry Fox Athletic Facility
  • Donated $15,000 to the Eye Clinic of the Grace Hospital (now part of the Ottawa Hospital) for a laser eye scanning device
  • Donated an innovative ‘open’ incubator for sick and pre-mature babies to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario
  • Funded and refurbished the Special Needs room at Clifford Bowey Public School to help meet the academic and social needs of students with developmental delays
  • Donated to leader dog and the CNIB
  • Supported foster children in Third World  countires
