Meetings

PROJECTS

Our main ongoing projects, a number of which are directed towards fundraising, are outlined below.  As local, Australian and world scenes change from day to day, Lions keep abreast of emerging needs, and monies derived from these fundraisers are applied appropriately to meet them as able.

Lions Book Bargains

Our bookshed is on Main Road, Coromandel Valley, almost opposite Acklands Hill Road. Comprising two green double garage sized structures, the boookshed  absolutely bristles with thousands of pre-loved books.  Metro Adelaide buses stop nearby.

Novels, sports books, humour, biography, cookbooks and a host of others on almost every other topic may be found here.   Prices are only a fraction of those seen in many second-hand bookshops. Open every Saturday 9-am  'til 12-30pm.

All saleable book donations are welcomed during opening times as shelf space allows, however there is no after-hours repository.  Phone or email us if you need further information.

Lions Garage Sale

Our Lions shed (Garage Sale) is on Byards Road at Happy Valley just south of Dawson Ave and adjacent to the Community Centre.  Its small size conceals a host of delights for bargain hunters. We are open for business on the 1st and 3rd Saturday morning of each month from 9am 'til noon.

For those whose culinary needs require topping up, tasty morsels from our on-site BBQ will do the trick.

Donations of bric-a-brac and small items of furniture, etc, are very much appreciated.  Email or phone us for further information.

Christmas Cakes and Sleigh

During one of the major projects each year, our Christmas sleigh plies the streets of Aberfoyle and districts from mid November until almost Christmas.  Santa brings delight and a small gift to the many children along the route, with mums & dads able to purchase Lions cakes or puddings during the process.

Sausage Sizzles

We have an active and skilled team of club 'chefs' who venture out to shopping centres and various other public venues to BBQ quick snacks as a fundraiser for the club.  These members really enjoy the cooking scene and regularly crack a joke or two between themselves and have light hearted conversations with the many customers.

Lion Mints

Members are all encouraged to find outlets for this unassuming yet popular sweet. Outlets are serviced regularly by members and a small but constant flow of donations to our supported charities results.

Road Clean-up

The club has adopted the stretch of Happy Valley Drive between Black Road and Chandlers Hill Road under the Road Watch programme.  One day a month, a small group of members treks the length of the road to keep it an attractive and clean entrance to the area.  One more act by which we can 'put back' into the community.

Sandy Congdon Scholarship

This Scholarship commenced in 1991 in the memory of a former Lion who passed away in 1990.   It is for the sum of $2,250 per student  paid over a three year period.

Successful year 12/13 students resident in the Club's service area (see home page for locations) who have been accepted into tertiary education  are eligible to apply.    Contact should be made with the Club via phone or email promptly after a desire to apply has been formed.
