Meetings
Members

You're invited! It's that simple. We invite all people interested in helping our community to join us in our mission. We have no secret handshakes, no rites of initiation, and we welcome all men and women to help us to further our mission.

Akron Host Lions Club Mission Statement

Recognizing that our blessings are 'Not for Us Alone,' Akron Lions Club members are committed servants to the Akron community through our mission of:

  • Being Knights: Helping the Sight Impaired Community of Akron and continuing our heritage of ‘Knights Of The Blind.” Our first and foremost service to the community.
  • Advancing Children’s Literacy: Offering assistance to children in need – recognizing that education is a transformational investment to make and that reading literacy is foundational.
  • Helping Preserve Families: Providing support for the preservation of the family unit – the most fundamental building block of our community and nation. Our approach to every program will be seen through the  lens of the family unit.  We want to increase the strength and sustainability of families in our community.
  • Being Good Neighbors: Being good neighbors by preserving our environment and fostering international cooperation and increased understanding between all peoples, providing support and encouragement to the greater Akron Community to recycle, utilize public transportation, and develop urban gardening through community gardens.

It doesn't take a miracle to do the right thing. We can't fix all of the problems here in Akron, but we can do SOMETHING.  The four pillars of our mission statement represent what we CAN do.  This mission statement guides every decision that we make and reflects the dream we have for our community.  In a sense, this mission statement is a manifestation of a philosophical approach to life that we advocate in the pattern in which we attempt to organize our lives as Lions.  Gandhi expressed this when he wrote:

"If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him."

Essentially, the philosophy of Lionism teaches that we need to become the change that we seek in the world.  We change this world by changing ourselves first. Lions from all over the world are engaged in similar missions to improve their communities.  We invite you to join us here in Akron -- together we can make a difference in this community and our world.
