The Alvin Evening Lions Club was chartered on April 30, 1964, as the sister club of the Alvin Noon Lions Club. The club is part of Lions Club International which is the world’s largest service organization. Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Lions International contributes almost one billion dollars worldwide to help those in need.

On the local level, the Alvin Evening Lions Club works alongside its sister in service, the Alvin Noon Lions Club, to provide eye examinations and glasses for students in need in the Alvin Independent School District. The Lions also work to support local organizations such as the Alvin Community Food Pantry. This very busy food pantry serves over 200 area families a month with much needed assistance. The club also assists the Alvin Volunteer Fire Department by helping supply batteries for donated toys collected during their Christmas toy drive.

In addition, the club supports Lions projects on the state and international level. One of many examples is the Texas Lions Camp. This camp, in Kerrville, was established by Lions to provide a summer camp for physically challenged and diabetic children. Alvin’s Lions also support the Lions Eye Bank of Texas, which provides hope to those who are not blessed with the gift of vision.

The Alvin Evening Lions Club is growing. In 1996, the club reached out to the youth and established the Alvin Leo Club. The Leo program is designed to introduce Lionism to students ages 13-18. In Alvin, we established a club on the Alvin High School campus. Here, the students who join are able to gain valuable experience in serving others and working to better the world around them. The Alvin Leo Club is a very close-knit organization built on the foundations of Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity. Although small, the club continually grows as time passes on with new, energetic members that wish to help make the community in which they live in a better place for everyone. Leos are driven by the desire to see others smiling, and after a day’s volunteering, nothing pleases a Leo more than knowing that he or she has done something to make his or her community a better place. Leos undertake many tasks, including cleaning up the Lions Camp on weekend trips and raising funds to aid local charities.

Lions Clubs are deeply rooted in the history of Alvin, Texas and we hope you will choose to be a part of our future.
