"We Serve" is the International Lions Club's motto."

The Avilla Lions Club was chartered on August 4, 1939 with 31 members,  Over 70 Years.

Our Club meets the first and third Thursday of each month beginning September through June.  Some of the activities that we participate in include Focus on Health, KidSight (eye screening of preschoolers), dictionaries for the 3rd grades at Avilla School, St. Marys School and LaOtto School,  highway cleanup, filling Easter eggs for Chamber of Commerce Easter egg hunt, town wide Halloween Party and costume judging, donation of fruit for the Avilla Christmas Bureau, kids Christmas shopping for clothes and food, providing two college scholarships for local high school graduates, and donations to the Avilla library, Boy Scouts, Avilla baseball,  softball and youth soccer programs, park department, Avilla food pantry and Allen Township 4-H.

We have also been involved in building and maintaining the pavilion at the Eley Memorial Park, funding the construction of the Avilla Parks tennis courts, building a handicap ramp for a local person and providing eyeglasses and dentures for local residents and purchasing Christmas decorations for the town.  We donated money to purchase two acres of land north of the original Avilla ball diamond that facilitated the addition of two additional ball diamonds.  We supported the "Crowning Touch" Park Department project for the construction of a concession stand/restroom facility between the ball diamonds.

Our Club has donated to various organizations in the area including Black Pine Animal Park, Noble House, Life and Family Services, Families for Freedom, and 4-H.  We also support Lions International programs such as leader dog, cancer control, diabetics, helping hands, speech & hearing,  eye bank and youth exchange.  We have also contributed to the Leo/Lion Club Project for the building of burn survivor units at St. Joe Hospital.

Collection boxes for glasses, hearing aids and cell phones can be found at Carteaux TV & Applaince, Town Hall, Community State Bank,  Post Office and St. Mary's and Avilla Schools.  So far this year 2008-2009 we have collected  506 eyeglasses and extra lenses, 5 hearing aids, and  12 cellphones.

Our fundraisers include chicken BBQ the first Sunday in May and the food booth in the Kendallville Fairgrounds for the Bluegrass Festival (both Memorial and Labor Day weekends),  Noble County Fair in July and the Apple Festival in October.
