The Bedford Host Lions Club was chartered in July 1935, sponsored by the Lynchburg Lions Club.  Over the years, the club has become an integral part of the Bedford Community providing many needed services including eye exams, glasses, eye screenings for school children, eyeglass recycling, hearing exams and assistance with hearing aids.

We have over 40 members, both male and female, who join together to serve our community.  We have 10 couples in the club and when we invite someone to be a member, we also invite the spouse.

We award a scholarship to a CVCC Early College student from Liberty High School who is on Free/Reduced lunch.  Students on Free lunch may be provided funds to pay for up to 75% of their annual tuition and students on Reduced lunch may be provided funds for up to 50% of their annual tuition.  Juniors must maintain GPA of at least 2.5 to receive scholarship money for the Senior year.

We co-sponsor a local musical competition that gives young musicians, both vocalist and instrumentalists, the opportunity to win substantial scholarships in statewide competition.

We provide monetary support to the Old Dominion Eye Bank, Drug Awareness, Leader Dog School for the Blind in Rochester, Michigan, and numerous local agencies and groups that provide services to those in need in our area..  A recent addition to our financial support is Camp Too Sweet.  This is a camp for diabetic children that provides them with an opportunity to be an overnight camper with their peers in a totally medically supervised environment where they can do the things all campers do including swimming, canoeing, etc.

Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
