MATER DOMINI HOME:

This home is run by the Catholic Church and is in Pinelands. It is a place for abused
women who are pregnant and for whom abortion is not an option. The club is
sponsoring Pamper Packs for the new babies, to be taken home. Some of these
moms have absolutely nothing for their babies, having fled from abuse. At present
Jean is putting these packs together.  They contain an outfit of clothing for the baby,
baby toiletries and some toiletries for the moms.

She has been taking them about 10 packs every 3 months.
The home is grateful for our suport.

SCHOOL BURSARIES:

Bergvliet Primary and WestcottPrimary Schools collect Easter Eggs for us
annually. We get over 3,000 eggs from them! To show our appreciation, the club
decided to establish 2 Bursary funds for the schools, R2,500 each. We request
that this money is not used for fees, we want it to sponsor outings, camps or
perhaps sporting equipment for a deserving pupil or pupils. The school gets to
select the recipient(s).

spend long periods there. Our club assists on a small scale by purchasing

toiletries, coffee, tea, sugar for the patients. Any donations which come our way
which can be used by them are passed on.

This is the only hostel of it's kind in SA. The residents are adults and are all deaf.
We visit them once every 3 months and play bingo with them. At the end of the year
we try to take them out for a meal. They have been to the Spur and to Kalkies at
KalkBay. Jean, who is able to sign, has joined their committee and has been
instrumental in a lot of changes taking place in the day to day running of the place.
At present, they also receive food from the Lions District Food project once a

VICTIM'S COMFORT ROOM, GRASSY PARK :

We give support to the counsellors at the police station. At first, we supplied them
with comfort packs for abandoned children and abused women. At the moment,
the community is sponsoring these packs. Should they run out, they can turn to
us to help them. We purchase R55 airtime for the counsellors monthly. Prior to
this, they were paying for it from their own pockets. The chief trauma counsellor
is Veronica Nicholas, ably assisted by her husband, Charles. There is also a
team of trained counsellors.
