Taste of North Berkeley Event Will Benefit Japanese Victims

In an emergency session today the Berkeley Lions executive board voted to send the sum of $2,000.00 to the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) for the benefit of victims in the north Japan earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident. The LCIF, with 1.3 million members in 215 countries, already has members on the ground aiding the afflicted and has designated $5 million for further relief and recovery efforts.

Ticket holders for the March 23 Taste of North Berkeley (in the Gourmet Ghetto) will be pleased to know that the first $2,000 of proceeds, upwards of 10% of the ticket price, will be going to this worthy charitable cause. Other community organizations that will benefit include the homeless, hungry, youth and women of Berkeley, as well as the sight- and hearing-impaired in many countries.
