MEETING CHANGE

Best laid plans and all that . . . a bit of scheduling confusion at our originally scheduled location means that we have had to switch plans for our fist meeting in October.  The new October 4 meeting location will be the Playground / J.B. Schrock Park, with dinner catered by MyGirls Deli.  Pass the word along to all the Lions you see, so we don’t leave anyone stranded.

WELCOME NEW LIONS

Along with the honor of hosting our District Governor and his entourage at our September 20 meeting, we also had the chance to have him officially induct some of our newest Lions.  We’re glad to have as our newest, full bore, rootin’ tootin’, official, fully commissioned and rarin’ to go Lions:  Lion Darlene Hillegass, Lion Catelyn Herman, and Lion Sam Petro (sorry, Lion Sam, ladies first).  For those who weren’t at the last meeting, be sure to personally welcome our new Lions when you see them.  If you’re a new Berlin Lion, but haven’t yet been inducted, be sure to contact Lion Secretary Scott Gilmore Gilmore@somersettrust.com and let him know when you’ll be at a meeting, in order that he may schedule your official welcome to the Club.

ONCE AGAIN, HIGH ON THE HOG

We had great success last year when we held our Whole Hog Drawing.  So we decided to do it again.  Tickets will be handed out at our meeting on the 4th, with the drawing to be held in November – a short period, so start selling early.  With the money we raised last year, We Served by being able to purchase the AED for the Berlin Food Pantry and make a significant contribution for one at the Mountain Playhouse.  We certainly hope for the same sort of results this year to allow us to continue those valuable efforts to make our community safer.

SAVE THE DATE

Those Lions and their guests who went to our joint Christmas Party last year with the Meyersdale Lions Club at the Elks will remember what a really nice time we had, with fine food and quality entertainment.  It was a lot more fun to share the evening with a bigger crowd, as we tried this joint event.  In fact it was so successful that we’ll be dong it again this year, but with the addition of our fellow Lions from Salisbury, too; and maybe even some other Lions Clubs.  Economies of scale should work to our benefit to make the event even better.  No details are yet available, but we do have the date and location.  Mark this on your calendar.  We will be at the Elks in Meyersdale on Saturday, December 9.  Don’t miss it.

PROSPECTING FOR PROSPECTS

Don’t wait and longer.  Lion Harold Knupp still needs a “Ten Prospective Lions” list from all of our members.    Write down the names and – if you can get them – the addresses and phone numbers of 10 people you know who aren’t already Lions.  Get the list to Lion Harold and we’ll work on getting out invitations.  Don’t worry if you’ve already brought some of the prospects to a Lions meeting.  Maybe the second time will make it work and it doesn’t hurt to ask.

BLOOD DRIVE UPDATE

Apparently some additional scheduling confusion with the Red Cross (must be the season for mix-ups) resulted in originally providing us with the incorrect date for our next Red Cross Blood Drive.  The correct date will be Monday, October 9.  Blood will be collected from 12:30 to 6:00 PM at the Borough Building.  PLEASE – donate if you can and ask everyone you know to donate if they can, too.    Disasters continue and blood is a critical part of the necessary response.   If you can help manage the Drive, too, contact Lion Blood Drive Captain Les Coslic at 267-3326 right away.

LAST CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

By the time you get this issue of Lion Tracks, it might even be too late for this year, but the name could always be added to the list for consideration next year.  We need to nominate from the many outstanding citizens who make this a great community just one for the year to name as our annual Outstanding Citizen.  Contact Lion John Hartman with nominations - Farmer1980.JH@gmail.com or 267-3070.

HER MAJESTY’S EDICTS

Our monarch, Queen Lion Rose says this to her loyal Lions:

Fellow Lions,

Welcome to Fall. Thanks for the great turnout for the induction of our new members and the District Governor Brad Geyer's visit. Welcome to Lion Darlene, Lion Sam, Lion Catelyn, Lion Dave and our newest member Lion Rev. David Williams.

For those who couldn't attend last meeting, we will be doing another Whole Hog raffle. Tickets will be distributed at the October 4 meeting.  Please pitch in and sell some tickets. We have 500 tickets at $5 each.

Meeting place change:  Due to a scheduling problem with Holy Trinity Church, our October 4th meeting will be held at the Playground Building at 6:15 and catered by MyGirls Deli.

See you at the J B Schrock Playground.

Yours in Service,

Rose
