Lions Club International is recognised worldwide for its service to the blind and visually impaired. In fact in 1930 lions introduced the white cane now widely used.

World wide they run glaucoma screening projects, provide corneal transplants, provide free eye care , eyeglasses white canes and guide dogs.

Locally the Lions Club of Bideford collect unwanted spectacles which are then sorted in Chichester and distributed to countries in the developing world.
