WHO ARE THE LIONS?

The Black Mountains Lions Club, founded in 1973, is part of the Lions Clubs International, an association of 1.31 million Members in more than 46,000 Clubs, located in 205 countries.

Lions Clubs began in 1917 as the dream of a Chicago businessman who believed that local business Clubs should expand their horizons, from purely professional concerns,to the betterment of their communities and the world at large.

The association network of men and women work together to answer the needs that challenge communities across the world.

Members of The Black Mountain Lions Club predominantly serve our local community based in and around Hay-on-Wye. Equally importantly Members enjoy an interesting and varied social life.

ALL the money we collect has to be used for good causes; the overheads of the Association is met by the subscriptions of Members.

BLACK MOUNTAINS LIONS

I have been connected with Lions for the past thirty four years, ever since my late husband, Lion Victor joined the Merton Lions Club in South London.

For many years I supported him as his wife and eight years ago I became a Lion in my own right.

Lion Victor and I moved to Talgarth, six  years ago to be nearer our family and this is the second time I have been President of the Black Mountains Lions.

What does this mean to me?  After my family it is the most important part of my life.  I love what we do - raising money for  people and  projects that are needy, whether it is a big disaster somewhere in the world or a local child who needs help.

I am very proud of being the instigator of our junior school quiz, which has been going now for three years, in fact children and what we can do for them make me feel proud, even to seeing my grandson in his Gwernyfed rugby club fleece whith the Lions badge on the sleeve

And please - we need more members to carry on our work so please come to one of our meetings.   You would be most welcome.
