BRISBANE EKIBIN LIONS CLUB - YOUTH OF THE YEAR COMPETITION 24TH FEBRUARY 2016.

The annual Youth of the Year competition, organised by Lions International in conjunction with the National Bank of Australia,  was held, with contestants from the Yeronga State High and Macgregor State High Schools.  The overall winner at Club level proceeds, next to the Zone level and thence to a Regional final. The Regional winner then progresses to the State/District level with the winner proceeding to the Lions Youth of the Year National Final;  held as part of the annual MD 201 convention.

The Youth of the Year Competition is designed to encourage, foster and develop leadership in conjunction with other citizenship qualities in our youth, at the age when they are about to enter the fields of employment or higher education and provides students with the incentive to pay greater attention to general qualities, so vital in developing our youth into first class citizens.  The qualities sought apart from academic attainments are those of leadership, personality, sportsmanship, public speaking and good citizenship.

This year, Kimberley Bowman was adjudged the winner in the Public Speaking Section and Riviera Mariz Sapon won the Overall YOY Yeronga Lions Club Section.  Both these students hailed from the Yeronga State High School.  Mariz will now proceed to contest the Zone level.

Given below is a photo of the contestants with the Judges

Judges Elissa Jenkins, Keith Schrauf and Scott Cameron with Contestants Kimberly Bowman, Maritz Sapon of YSH, Ye Eun Jung, Doreen Baraka and Richard Webb of Macgregor High.
