BRICK LIONS CLUB CELEBRATES
63 YEARS OF SERVICE
According to Paul Valente, Club President, “We are proud to support these organizations for all that they do to help others. Lions International has a long history of serving the community and supporting the needs of the visually and hearing impaired. We are very proud of our club’s 63 years of service to the Brick community. The Brick Lions club members thank everyone who contributes to this important work. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community.”
Since the club’s chartering in 1948, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as eyeglass recycling and providing eye exams and glasses for the needy. During it’s 62 years of service the Lions fund raising efforts have changed over the years. During the 50s & 60s funds were raised through youth dances and dinners at it hall on Lions Way. In the 70s & 80s they jointly ran the Octoberfest with the Kiwanis Club. After Octoberfest ran its course, the Lions moved on to selling funnel cakes at local festivals including Founders Day and Summerfest. In 90s they ran sanctioned Jet Ski races at Windward Beach in Brick. Proceeds from these fundraising events have gone to providing scholarships to high school students in Brick Township, donations to local charitable organizations, and aid to organizations that help the visually or hearing impaired. The Club recently held it’s third annual Harold Handchen Memorial Golf outing to raise funds for its scholarship program.
