Lions Pay Final Respect
Joe Dewees, Brown County Lions Club oldest living member at 100 passed away January 15, 2012 at Brown County Health & Living Community Center. A Lions Memorial Service was conducted on Jan 19th during the final visitation hours at the funeral home. Thanks to all who participated and paid their final respects.
Plant-A-Tree Initiative Gets Big Boost
Riddle Point Park Lake Lemon will be the recipient of 250 seedlings committed to the project at no cost by Sara Bielski of U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. All we need are volunteers in the spring to plant them in the ground. What a combination of good efforts by all involved to bring this project to fruition.
Lions and the "Liar’s Festival"
A participatory involvement to help the Literacy Coalition stage their first annual "Liar’s Festival" is scheduled for Mar 30, 31, and April 1 in Nashville. Lion Larry Gardner is looking for volunteers to help out on Mar 31st 1-5 pm. Our reward is a share of the revenue for tickets sold to our event. Also look for the Lions "Liars Bench" to be re-introduced to the court house square after a long absence. Thanks to Lions Charlie Place, Bob Gilmore & Jeff Deckard.
Yvonne Oliger, February Dinner Guest Speaker
Retiring Director of the Brown County Library will speak about the library and Valentine’s Day.
Spouses, significant others and friends are invited. Attire is business dress no vests.
Extra Value Coupon Card Gets a Reprieve
A Lions Club revenue activity since 1975 was at risk of being shut down as no one was willing to step up and carry it forward in 2012. Knights in shining armor do exist. At our last dinner meeting Lion Delbert Crocker announced that he would carry it on for another year with the sales assistance of Lion Tona Nelson. Thanks Lion Delbert and Tona for extending its life one more year.
Mid-winter Conference Recognizes Brown County Lions Club For Their Participation.
Our club participated in three workshops highlighting our Extra Value Coupon card, Holiday Fruit sales, and Spring Blossom Parade. Thanks to Lions John McKune, Delbert Crocker, Rick Dean, Vickie Gilmore and Earl Eversoll for presenting. We were awarded though not only for our workshops but for our attendance. Our club had the third largest contingent present at the conference and we were presented a plague of appreciation for our attendance. Thanks for all who presented and a special thanks to those who attended and represented our club.
2012 Grant Cycle Done
Our obligation is to give back revenue dollars received from the public less direct operating expenses. We honor this commitment every year by awarding grants to the community of Brown County and funding our scholarship program. Your club approved awards this year to thirty recipients plus established five scholarships all totaling $16,242.
Lions Volunteer at CRC’s Reality Store
Six Lions volunteered a total of 13.5 hours to help eight graders deal with mock financial decisions. Thanks to Lion Mel Hoefling for organizing our effort and for the volunteers who helped inform participants drawing on their real life experiences.

Heavy Volunteer Demands
After a slow winter we face huge challenges in May with three activities; Spring Blossom Parade May 5th, Circus May 11th & Spring Pancake breakfast May 19th. Please step up and participate in all of these as it will require lots of volunteers. Time to dust off the sneakers and get the kinks worked out.

A ROAR from the President
We are Lions listen to us roar. We should all take pride in our accomplishments individually and collectively as a club. We deliver on our commitments and we search for opportunities to make our club better. Just like personal body conditioning a solid core is important. We have a solid core of very active Lions but our clubs’ personal conditioning would be stronger if we could strengthen that core by increasing participation by more of our very talented Lion membership. Help make our club healthier.
"WE SERVE" is our mission; our exclamation is
"BITE EM"!
