Neighbors Helping Neighbors Parade Food Drive

Here’s a wonderful note from our neighbors at The Salvation Army, Mother’s Cupboard, and the Society of St. Vincent DePaul of Brown County. The Spring Blossom Parade is glad for their ministry and service to us all.

This year’s theme of “Neighbors helping Neighbors” couldn’t be a better one to motivate us to do a food drive for the three main food pantries in our county, Mother’s Cupboard, the Society of St. Vincent DePaul of Brown County and The Salvation Army.

While people report that in the United States unemployment and hunger are on a downward slope, our little county has seen the ramifications of the past and is trying hard to play catch up. The usages at our local food pantries continue to have a significant increase, while, unfortunately, there is not the increase of donations and government issued commodities that equal the need.
In an effort to truly help our neighbors, we would ask that on the day of the parade you and each participant in your parade entry donate at least one (you’re welcome to do more) non-perishable food item. Members of our three pantries will be at the parade registration stations May 2nd to gladly receive whatever your group can provide.

We also will be encouraging the community to bring at least one non-perishable item to the parade route to be collected at curbside by the three sponsoring pantries as their floats go by. The Salvation Army will collect all donations received and distribute them evenly among the three pantries.
We greatly appreciate your help; it is because we can pull together as a community of Hoosiers with just a can of this or that, here and there, that we can truly help our neighbors!

Thank you and enjoy the parade,

Mother’s Cupboard, Brown County
