Preschool vision screening with the SPOT machine is a primary emphasis of the Cape Charles LIon's Club.

 

SPOT VISION SCREENING

March 24, 2016

CapeCharles Lions did another Strides event Thursday eveningt at the YMCA.  This was a joint project with Central Shore and Onancock Lions.

37 people served.  30 blood sugar & vision screens with adults.  7 children for vision screens.  1 vision referral; 1 diabetes check recommended.

 

March 17,2016

Three CapeCharles Lions screened 17 preschool children at St. Paul on the Shore Daycare Center.  There were 2 adults screened also.

July 16, 2015

Lions Sheila Plowden, Shaquiche Savage, and Karen Kolet performed vision screenings with the SPOT at Kiptopeke Elementary at the request of ESRH.  64 children were screened.  Our newest Lion, Veronica Raines, also helped.

 

July 18, 2015

Lion Karen Kolet assisted Lion John Kluis, Onancock Club, and Lion John Willis Kellam, Central Shore Club with vision screening at Metompkin Elementary at the request of ESRH.  90 migrant children were screened.

 

August 26, 2015

3 Cape Charles Lions, using the SPOT machine screened 14 preschool children at the Cheriton Migrant Headstart.  5 children were referred for follow ups.

 

September 15, 2015

Accomac Headstart Preschool Vision Screening with the SPOT machine.  Sheila, Shaquiche and Karen with the Cape Charles Lions Club, plus 2 from Central Shore Lions screen 137 pre-schoolers.  There were 23 children referred for additional vision needs.

Accomack's Pungoteague Elementary School--Six Eastern Shore Lions screened 112 preschool, kindergarden and 3rd grade students for vision and hearing problems.  10 children were referred for follow up care.

 

October 8, 2015

Accomack Public School-4 Lions from Cape Charles screened 65 kids 6 yrs or less with 14 referrals and 72 kids over 6 with 7 referrals. 2 volunteers from the community worked 7 hours helping with the screenings.

 

October 15, 2015

Kegotank Public Elementary School-Lions from Cape Charles, Central Shores and Onancock lions clubs worked together screeing 62 pre-school children and 24 elementary school children for vision problems, hearing problems as well as testing for color blindness.  Over 30 man hours were required to complete this task. 14 children were referred for follow-up.

 

October 22, 2015

Metompkin Elementary School-Cape Charles Lions plus two volunteers worked the pre-K, K, and third grade sight and hearing screening.
A total of 167 children were screened with 47 referrals.

 

December 15, 2015

Cape Charles Lions screened 10 kids (severely autistic) at Nandua High And Middle Schools with help from the Central Shores Lions club.

 

July 16,2016

Lions of Zone I screened 84 adults at Eastern Shore labor camp.

85 Accomac Headstart children were screened for hearing problems.  3 Cape Charles Lions along with 2 Lions from the Central Shores club provided this service.

 

September 22, 2015

59 Accomac Headstart children were screened for hearing problems.  3 Cape Charles Lions provided this service.

 

September 23, 2015

68 Hare Valley Headstart children were screened for hearing problems.  6 Cape Charles Lions  provided this service.

 

November 14, 2015

Thanks to all Lions who made the STRIDES EVENT at the Onley YMCA a huge success!

6 children were screened with the SPOT and 42 adults had vision screening as well as blood sugar screening.
