RATTLE 'n' HUM Car show

The Hod-Rod car show held on the last Sunday of June, at the Castle Hill RSL car park included displays of Camaro Firebird, Mustangs, Holden GTR & XU-1, Holden Monaro & Ford GTO cars.  This year the proceeds of the day went to the Tallowood Special School located in Kellyville to purchase a special purpose 10 seat, wheelchair accessible bus for their students.

Wrap with Love Project

WRAP WITH LOVE volunteers create rugs & quilts and send them to people in need in Australia and around the world.  To date, Castle Hill Lions Club members with a small band of enthusiastic supporters have knitted over 2500 squares resulting in over 90 wraps.  Certificates of Appreciation have been awarded to Myra Bentley and Gwen Stacker for over 1500 squares between them.  If you wish to join or for further information on this project you can contact Cheryl Landon-Jones on 9680 1317

Collection of Recycled Eye Glasses

The Lions Club of Castle Hill began participating in the RECYCLED EYE GLASSES PROJECT in 2006.  Now most Optometrists in Castle Hill collect recycled glasses on our behalf which are picked up on a regular basis and sent to the Lions Eye Glass Centre in Redcliff QLD.  There they are sorted, mended and graded to be sent mainly to third world countries.

Our Lions Club has collected  6760 pairs of recycled eye  glasses to date.  We would like to thank our contributors Ralph Clarke, Sight Centre Mall. Spec Savers, Vision Central,  Betta Vision, Eye Site, Clifford Chong and Rotary as well as our Lions members, families and friends.  If you have any eye glasses for recycling or know of any optometrists that would like to collect recycled glasses for us, please contact Cheryl Landon-Jones on 9680 1317

Youth of the Year

The Youth of the Year Quest is designed to encourage students interest in leadership and the qualities required to take an active and constructive role in the community.  The quest seeks a high level of academic, leadership, sporting, public speaking, and citizenship achievements in its potential winners.  Castle Hill Lions Club takes an active role in the initial promotion in schools & local communities and judging at a club and zone level.

Again in 2011, Castle Hill Lions will conduct the local event between, Castle Hill High, Oakhill College, and Gilroy High Schools on Dec 5th 2011.

Fundraising BBQ's at Bunnings

Fundraising is always a major part of any service club activities and Lions Club of Castle Hill are proud to be associated with Bunnings in weekend BBQs.  Our sausage sizzles at Bunnings Norwest,  Dural and Seven Hills have been very successful bringing in good profits.   Lions Australian thank Bunnings for their support provided to all service organisations across Australia.

Christmas Cakes and Christmas Raffle

Our Annual Xmas raffle will run over a five week period, starting on Saturday the 12th Nov 2011 at Stocklands Shopping Centre, Baulkham Hills and will be drawn at Knightsbridge Shopping Centre on Saturday 17th Dec 2011.   We thank Garry for his great organisational skills and many hours manning the venues, Alan Kindl for donating the Noni B gift voucher and Tom McQuillan for donating second prize and of course all of our ticket sellers.   The funds will go towards local community projects.  Many thanks to our local shopping centres for their support.

We sold 74 doz Christmas Cakes and 2 doz puddings earning us a total profit of $2266.  A further one doz cakes were donated to Meals on Wheels.  A big thankyou to Allan Staples and Charles & Margot McGuirk for their efforts in this project.

Lions Mints

Through the support of several commerical and club outlets, like the RSL Club, the local Police Station, plus Westpac & ANZ banks, the Lions Club Mints profit enables us to donate approx $1000 per year to the disadvantaged, primarily The Australian Children's Mobility Foundation.   We do thank the generous owners of these outlets for assisting Castle Hill Lions as these retail outlets make no income from the sale.  We also thank Carole Rathgeber for her contribution in the organisation of the Club's Mints for more than eleven years.
