Scholarship Ceremony
On April 4, 2012, the Centre Lions held its annual scholarship luncheon at Lanny’s Diner with the five awardees and their parents present. Several representatives from the respective schools also attended the event.
The selection process was once again a tough job, which was no problem for the scholarship committee consisting of Lions Yvonne Salmoni, Bodie Moore, Linda Starr, Bob Covington, and Norbert Falk.
In the end, the five scholarship awardees were: Jessica McCord, Taylor Hayes, Hannah Welsh from Cherokee County High School; Amy Bevels from Sand Rock High School and Allison Crowe from Cedar Bluff High School. Each student received a $500.00 scholarship for their future college endeavors.
Dr. Robert “Bob” Covington, who is a Centre Lion, gave the luncheon speech and talked about his “Memories of Adventures in Service”. Lion Bob, who among other things is a WWII veteran, recounted a lifetime of memories when times were tough: everything from picking cotton to ministering overseas in foreign countries. He received a well-deserved standing ovation from his fellow Lions and the guests.
