Cheadle Lions Club

A Brief History

Melvin Jones founded the International Association of Lions Clubs in 1917 in Chicago.  With membership of about 1.4 million in 44,000 clubs in 192 countries, Lions form the largest service organization of its kind in the world.

Lions came to the UK in 1950 and has grown to include 900 clubs with over 18,000 members in Britain and Ireland.

Cheadle Lions Club was formed in 1987. We are a service organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in our community, be it local, national, or international (see Lions Charities). We donate from our funds and also give our time where we are able. Since our formation we have raised many thousands of pounds for good causes both at home and abroad.

Income is generated from many different events, such as our annual Classic Car Show,  Concerts, Dances, Maggot Racing, Quiz Nights, Raffles, the annual Christmas Collection, Easter Eggs, Collections, and Donations and these are just some of the activities taken up by Cheadle Lions Club Members and supporters

All proceeds go into our charity account. No charitable funds are used to run the Lions Organisation.

Our members also enjoy a wide and varied social programme with games nights, a formal dinner, parties, trips, treasure hunts, talks, quizzes, etc.
