Club Meeting, September 7, 2010
The guest speaker at our first dinner meeting in September was Lori Grigg from Paradise Dog Training, a company that provides facility dogs to hospitals, schools, and other places that can use dogs for therapy.
Also in attendance was our Zone Chairman, Lion Rich.
Club Meeting, April 20, 2010
The gues
t speaker at our second dinner meeting in April was Stephen Campbell, the Program Coordinator for the Alzheimer's Association of Chelsea. He gave a presentation on the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's Disease as well as other forms of demetia.
The Chelsea High School Company C Show Choir under the direction of Steven Hinz, provided a surprise after dinner song.
Club Meeting, April 6, 2010
The guest speaker at our first dinner meeting in April was Amy Heydlauff, who is the Managing Director of the Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation whose goal is to 'make it easier for residents to eat better, move more, avoid unhealthy substances and connect with others in healthy ways'. With the merging of Chelsea Hospital into the St. Joseph Hospital group, it was decided to create a foundation that would provide grants to community organizations within a five community area (the school districts of Chelsea, Dexter, Grass Lake, Manchester, and Stockbridge) to help reach the above goal. Ms. Heydlauff explained the grant application procedure. There was a discussion about various grant request possibilities and what Chelsea Lions could do.
Other club discussions included upcoming White Cane Week. Lion Merlyn Street is in charge of scheduling club members as workers for the weekend of April 29- May2. Please contact him to select a time and location.

Club Meeting March 16, 2010
The speaker at our second meeting in March was Ted Duve, the postmaster at the Chelsea Post Office. He gave us an update on how the move from the old building to the new progressed as well as the current status of the post office and general postal issues. He stated that the move was beneficial for the postal employees as well as those who needed easier access to parking while using the Post Office. There is some talk about discontinuing Saturday deliveries, but there will be no increase in postal rates this year. In answering numerous questions from the Lions members, he explained that business bulk mail is the largest income source for the post office and also that the USPS handles some deliveries for UPS.
Club Meeting March 2, 2010
The first meeting in March was an extended business meeting where various club members explained about all the upcoming events, from the Bowling Tournament to the District Convention and White Cane Week.
Club Meeting February 16, 2010
At our bi-monthly dinner meeting of February 16, 2010 we had a number of guests and speakers. Two members from the Dexter Encore Theater, Cara Manor and Paul Kock, gave a presentation during dinner about the theater and how we could use their facilities for a fund raiser. After dinner, Nate Dawson gave a talk about his job as part owner of the grain elevator just east of Chelsea and how he works with area farmers getting their crops to market.
Also in attendance were our Zone Chairman, Rich Westbury, who provided an update on Zone and District activities as well as Lion Richard Ulrich, from Dexter, who accompanied the dinner speakers and also provided updates on various Lions activities in the area.
Another guest was JC Soloman who is considering joining the club.
The two winners of the 50-50 were Steve Leeman and Chuck Armstrong.
Club Meeting February 2, 2010
At our February 2, 2010, meeting, Lion Bill Harmer, who is the director of the Chelsea District Libary, introduced our gust speakers for the evening. They were Celeste Choate, Associate Director of the Ann Arbor District Library, and Terry Soave, from the Library Outreach & Neighborhood Services. They talked about the Washtenaw Country Library for the Blind and Physically Disabled @ ADL which is now a part of the Ann Arbor District Library. Included in the their presentation were discussions of the various services available as well as sample listening devices that are available free to county residents who join the Library. They suggested that there are possibly 5000 county residents who may be able to participate in this service.
Other guests included six members of the Michigan Center Lions Club who were at an Inter-Club, who provided an update to their club activities. Lion Merlyn Street was the winner of the 50-50 drawing.
Club Meeting January 19, 2010
At our January 19, 2010, meeting, the guest speaker was Chelsea's newly elected Mayor Jason Lindauer. Mayor Lindauer spoke on the current status of the city and its finances as well as discussed possible future directions the city is considering including a new marketing campaign and how the current economic climate is affecting the city. He answered numerous questions from the Lions members about the recent closings of several businesses as well as the new police station and other local issues.
Besides Mayor Lindauer, Brian Bloomensaat attended as a guest. Lion Paul Weber was the winner of the 50-50 drawing.
