Interstate 81 New Year's Day Safety Project -- 1 January 2012

Clarke County Lions served up coffee, pastries, and "good ole Southern hospitality" to New Year's Day travelers heading southbound on Interstate 81. We greeted and served more than 400 travers during our shift.
Annual Christmas Party for Underprivileged Kids -- 9 December 2011

Clarke County Lions Club held their Annual Children’s Christmas Party on Friday December 9, 2011 at Enders Fire Hall in Berryville. This Christmas Party is held so that less fortunate children can experience the joys of Christmas. This year Clarke County Social Services and Winchester, Frederick and Clarke County Head Start identified children who were eligible to attend this event. There were 177 children invited to this year’s party from 83 families invited to attend; 136 children attended the event. Attendees enjoyed hot dogs, chips, cookies, brownies, and arts and crafts. The highlight of the event was a visit from Santa who spoke with each child and presented them with a bag of gifts selected especially for them. Each child also received a photo with Santa. Families and children who were unable to attend the party received their gifts the after the party. Approximately 700 gifts were provided and 7 bicycles were separately delivered.
This event was made possible by the generous support of Santa (Jerry Bidler), Clarke County Lions Club, Hout 4H Club of Berryville, John H. Enders Fire Company, and the Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots Campaign. Thanks also to Clarke County Lions, spouses, and friends who prepared and served the food; sorted, wrapped, packed, and transported the gifts; planned and staffed the arts and crafts activities; photographed the children and Santa; provided candy cane reindeer for each attendee; and photographed the children with Santa.
