Lions Eyeglass & Hearing Aid Recycling

What is the need?

According to the World Health Organization, the eyesight of approximately one-fourth of the world's population can be improved through the use of a corrective lens.  In most developing countries, an eye exam can cost as much as one month's wages, and a single eye doctor may serve a community of hundreds of thousands of people.  For many, poor eyesight that is left uncorrected can lead to unemployment for adults and a child's inability to attend school.

How can we help meet the need?

Lions clubs around the world collect and recycle men's, women's and children's used prescription eyeglasses, which are shipped to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.  There, they are cleaned, categorized by prescription, and prepared for distribution by Lions and other groups.  By taking the time to donate your glasses, you will help to improve the life of someone in need.  It is truly inspiring to see the Journey of a Pair of Eyeglasses once they have been donated.  Hearing aids can also be donated wherever eyeglasses are collected.

We thank all of the healthcare professionals and community partners who support our cause by maintaining collection boxes at their locations (see below for a list of drop-off sites).  We also thank the staff and clients at SarahCare Adult Daycare Center in Coral Springs for sorting and packaging the donated items.

Contact us if you would like to have a collection box in your location, or if you would like to arrange an eyeglass donation mission for the needy.
