Meetings

Each year the Club hosts the Oil Town Minithon 5K & 1K Run.  It takes place in spring (usually in April). In 2015 and 2016, over 100 runners/walkers participated raising over $6500 for local community humanitarian service projects & community-based service organizations.  In 2017 and 2018, rainy weather reduced the participants to about 70 but the Club still raised over $6000 for the community needs.

Annually, the Club hosts the Bennett/Hamrick golf tournament. It takes place in the fall (usually Oct).  Last year the tournament raised $7000 for the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville.  This camp provides a free week of amazing activities for children with physical disabilities, Type-1 diabetes, and Downs Syndrome.  A large medical and camp staff are on hand to handle medicines and other special needs.   In 2017, the Club sponsored 2 Corsicana children to this camp.  This year's tournament was held 27 October and raised approximately $7,500.

Spot Vision Testing:  This is an amazing device to quickly (5 seconds) examine eyes to detect potential problems.  Children as young as 6 months can be tested.  Since children may not know they have a problem, this is valuable testing for school age children.  The Club is in the process of acquiring its own device.  Pending that acquisition (expected in May 2018), the Club is teaming with Lions from Temple, Texas to test local children.  On October 17, 2017, approximately 260 Pre-K children (mainly 4 year-olds) were screened at the Drane Learning Center.  About 30% were identied as having possible vision problems requiring evaluation by optical professionals.

DISC Golf Course: Club designed and created an 18  hole Disc (Frisbee) Golf Course in Fullerton-Garitty Park, Corsicana.  This project has been a team effort with the Corsicana Parks Department and many generous donors.   See separate page for status and the course Score Card.

White Cane fundraiser. Club normally conducts 2 White Cane events (one in the spring & one in the fall) to raise money to pay for vision services for Disadvantaged youth in the Corsicana & Navarro County.

Lions also participate in numerous other service activities such as sponsoring and arranging transportation (including private flights) for children to go to TX Lions Camp in Kerrville, bell ringing for the Salvation Army during Christmas season, Community clean-up activities, assistance at the Corsicana Food Pantry, selling pumpkins for the City of Corsicana around Thanksgiving, Lions peace poster contest for youth, and many other activities.

When we are asked to meet a need, we step up because WE SERVE!
