Since its inception, programs such LSKS have helped screen more than 30,000 preschool-age children in Maryland for amblyopia and strabismus.  Over 2,500 of them were referred for professional follow-up eye exams.  Funding provided by the Lions is sorely needed to ensure that the Preschool Vision Screening Program continues as a viable community-based program.  Lions support local and wide-scale efforts to control and prevent diabetes and diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of vision loss in U.S. adults.

With 1.35 million men and women serving in more than 46,000 clubs in over 206 countries and geographic locations, Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service organization.  In 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions to become "Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness," and we accepted.  Today, sight programs remain one of our defining causes.
