Community Service Projects

  • New Eyeglasses for Children – The Lions assist low income families in obtaining glasses for school age children within the Pike-Delta-York and Liberty Center School Districts.
  • Used Eyeglasses – We collect used eyeglasses for the needy.  These are recycled and matched to people with vision needs in our country and overseas. We do the collection drive in cooperation with PDY & LC Schools.  We also have collection boxes placed in numerous locations in the area.
  • Dictionaries – Starting in September 2013 we provide dictionaries to all PDY 3rd graders.  Starting in September 2015 we provide them to the LC 3rd graders.  This is an annual project.
  • Preschool Vision Screening – We have trained members and provide a free vision screening for children age 3 to 5.  This is to help families detect any vision needs so they can be handled and corrected before the normal screening for kindergarten.  The longer a problem is undetected the greater its impact on a child’s development.
  • Transportation for Blind – Our Lions is listed with The Sight Center of NW Ohio and are on call to provide rides to visually impaired residents in our area to stores and appointments.
  • Coach Cory’s Backpack Buddies – The Lions provides support to this program at PDY.  The program provides a backpack on Friday afternoon with food to supplement their weekend meals to about 51 families in need.  These are sent with the children on Fridays each week and returned on Monday.
  • Outreach Toll Bridge – Starting in 2013 we partner with Delta Outreach to provide some of the manpower for the annual “toll bridge” on Main Street to raise funds for the Delta Outreach Food Pantry.
  • Destination ImagiNation – Provided support for two PDY teams going to the international competition in 2014.
  • Food Drive Contest – In February 2015 we sponsored a food collection contest between PDY and LC to benefit area food banks.  This was at the wrestling league meet at Delta.  The PDY and LC Athletic Departments are co-sponsors of this food drive.
  • Team Sponsorship – Starting in 2015 the Lions are sponsoring two community sports teams for children in the PDY School District.  (Winter indoor baseball and spring baseball)
  • Scholarship – Starting in 2015 the Lions will award a $500 college scholarship to a graduating senior at Pike-Delta-York.  Starting in 2016 we will also award one at Liberty Center.
  • Lions Clubs International Foundation  - Since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation has awarded more than $660 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world. By conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and raising awareness of eye disease, Lions work toward their mission of providing vision for all.

Fund Raising Projects

  • Amish Cheese Sale – Twice each year, October and March, we sell Amish cheese from Indiana for $6.00/pound to raise fund to support service projects.
  • Cookouts – Each summer we partner with The Community Market to do Saturday cookouts from 10:00am to 2:00pm to raise fund to support service projects.  Usually we do 2-3 during the summer.
