I am honoured and proud to serve as President of the Dundalk Lions Club for the year 2017-2018.  Hopefully it will be an exciting year as we honour the Lions Club motto ‘We Serve’.

The Lions Club was founded by Chicago business man Melvin Jones on 7th June 1917.  Within three years it had become an international organisation with the aim of empowering volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian need, encourage peace and promote international understanding.  There are now over 1.4 million Lions Club members in 46.000 local clubs in 200 countries.  Lions International programmes have include preventing blindness, relieving hunger, protecting the environment and diabetes awareness.

The Dundalk Lions Club was founded 40 years ago.  Since then Lions members have endeavoured to ‘serve’ the local community.  Current projects include weekly bingo each Wednesday in the Clan na Gael Hall, weekly radio slot on Dundalk FM., and Meals on Wheels.  Each year the Dundalk Lions Club  organises a weekend away for our senior citizens and carers and each Christmas we distribute over 250 food parcels to local families.  We also run different fund-raising events such as a Golf Classic, Pub Quizzes and Poker Classics.

The Dundalk Lions Club are a busy group and we are continually seeking new members.  If you are interested in joining us or would like to find out more about the projects, you can contact us through facebook or c/o Crowne Plaza Dundalk
