  *** Fall/Winter 2021 ***

One again this holiday season the East Providence Lions Club partnered with the East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) to sponsor two (2) local needy families as part of the Adopt-a-Family program.
EBCAP furnishes the club with a family wish list which includes specific gifts for children, clothing sizes, and/or gift cards. The club then purchases the desired items and coordinates with EBCAP for delivery in time for Christmas. Special thanks to Carol Wood, Mike Arruda, and Gordon and Wendy Wood Hubbard for coordinating the purchasing and wrapping of the gifts!

The Lions Club District 42 Governor, Ms Sally Schroth, made her annual visit to the East Providence Lions Club on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Davenports in East Providence.  She spoke about her plans for a number of projects involving all Clubs for the upcoming year.  DG Sally is pictured here (fourth from the right) with our attending Club members.

   *** Spring/Summer 2021 ***

The East Providence Lions Club, in partnership with Savers, completed a very successful two month clothing drive on July 1st.  The total amount of bags collected was in excess of 330, far surpassing the original goal of 250. We wish to thank all who dropped items at our three (3) community collection events, our dedicated membership, who contributed their time, efforts & storage facility to the cause, Mayor Bob DaSilva for his support & videos and our Savers coordinator, Marybeth Came.  Our Lions Coordinator, Richard Primmer, did an excellent job in all phases of the project and also many thanks to the dock crew at Savers (Cole, Alex, & Marcel) for their help in unloading & weighing of the bags.  The support of the community to the East Providence Lions is most appreciated and vital to our continued charitable efforts.  For updates on East Providence Lions activities throughout the year, please follow us on Facebook or at our website: e- clubhouse.org/sites/eastprovidenceri/index.php.

(Previous post) The club concluded its highly successful FunDrive with Savers on Saturday July 17th with a grand total of 340 bags of clothing and household items collected. The final weight total was 5438 lbs (that's 2.7 tons!) donated to Savers with 72% member participation in this effort. The club extends a heartfelt thank you to all of our friends in the community for your support and assistance!

The initial collection date on May 16th at Crescent Park was asuccess as the club strives to reach its goal of 250 bags collected. Future drop off dates at the East Providence Senior Center, 610 Waterman Ave, East Providence are scheduled for Sunday June 13th and Sunday June 27th from 9-12 AM. Lions picture are (l-r) Mike Arruda, Dick Primmer, Dick Wood, and Henry (Cap) Caparco. Thanks to everyone for their continued support and we hope to see you again soon.

Eyeglass Recycling

On April 7th, 2021 the East Providence Lions Club presented Letters of Appreciation to Ms. Abby Miller and the Vision Club of St. Mary's Academy - Bay View. Abby and her club collected used eyeglasses for recycling and donated them to Lions International through our club. In addition to local community based projects, Lions Clubs are recognized world wide for their efforts on behalf of the visually impaired. We thank Abby and the Vision Club for their generosity and partnership. Pictured (left to right) are past Lions club president Carol Wood, Ms. Abby Miller, and current Lions club president Gordon Hubbard.

Clothing Drive

The East Providence Lions are sponsoring a clothing/household items fundraiser starting May 1st, 2021 and ending July 1st, 2021. Items must be clean and in acceptable condition for resale. All proceeds will benefit the club's charities account.

This is a great opportunity for family and friends to declutter their closets for a charitable cause, so there's no time like the present to sort through all of those items that you no longer need. For more information:

 *** December News ***

An annual holiday tradition for the East Providence Lions Club is to partner with the East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) to sponsor two (2) local needy families as part of the Adopt-a-Family program.
EBCAP furnishes the club with a family wish list which includes specific gifts for children, clothing sizes, and/or gift cards. The club then purchases the desired items and coordinates with EBCAP for delivery in time for Christmas.
Also, the club once again is happy to sponsor a holiday memorial tree on the grounds of the Senior Center. This is just one of the many trees which will be decorated and brightly lit as a living memorial to family members.
Thank you to club members president Gordon Hubbard, Carol Wood, and Peter follows for their efforts in decorating and presenting the club's 2020 tree (visit our photos page).
