Our Ellettsville Lions Club was chartered in 2010 -  we have been tirelessly serving those in need in the surrounding community. With projects ranging from vision screenings, providing dictionaries and scholarships, the Ellettsville Lions Club is committed to bringing the unparalleled services of Lions Clubs International to our Ellettsville community.

Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired, championed youth initiatives and strengthened local communities through hands-on service and humanitarian projects.

100% of funds raised and collected from the public are returned to the community in the form of projects, programs and donations.

Vision Screening

Changing Lives, One Screening at a Time.

This program provides free preventative screenings at our local schools and community events in our area. These screenings are free to those being screened; most of the charges for these services are covered by your local Lions Club.  We generally schedule vision screenings in the fall at Edgewood Junior High and Edgewood Intermediate.

Dictionaries Project

Changing Lives, One Book at a Time.

Annually the members of the Ellettsville Lions Club deliver dictionaries to fourth-grade students and teachers at Edgewood Intermediate School.

Not only do the dictionaries have a great number of words, but they also have information about the presidents of the United States, each state and other useful items. Portions significant to Lions are the Braille alphabet, and the sign language alphabet. The most intriguing portion for the students is the longest word in the English language, which contains 1,909 letters and covers a full page.

Teachers praise the dictionaries.  Students love them too!

Our distribution of the dictionaries is one of the many ways we serve our community, and it fits well with the Reading Action Program established by Lions Clubs International to promote literacy throughout the world.

Scholarships

Changing Lives, One Dollar at a Time.

Part of our commitment to the community is supporting our children.

One way we support our high school students is to sponsor Edgewood High School Band and Choir through Indiana University Athletic Concessions.  Parents and families work many hours at various athletic events as a fundraiser.

With many students struggling with financial support to attend college, they must rely on grants, scholarships and student loans.  Another way we support the students is partnering with the Edgewood High School Dollars for Scholars (EHS DFS), the local chapter of Scholarship America.  Through this program, students apply for many scholarships at the local chapter.  By applying for scholarships through EHS DFS, this allows the students to also be eligible for national scholarships available through Scholarship America.  Some colleges are considered Matching Schools, which doubles the scholarship.

We are proud to be part of the Edgewood High School Dollars for Scholars program and offer six scholarships to our local students.  Two of the scholarships are available to students related to a Lion Member. The other scholarships are based on choir and band participation.  For more information on scholarships please see

Eyeglass Collection

Changing Lives, One Pair at a Time.

In just about any home, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being used. That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person's life.

Imagine if you could help a child read. An adult succeed in his job. A senior maintain her independence. And provide a community with more opportunities to grow and thrive.

Everyday, our recycled eyeglass programs do all of this and more.

You can drop off your usable eyewear at our club sponsored collection boxes in our community.  Our collection boxes are located at the outstanding local businesses for your convenience:
