PROJECTS

Hearing & Speech Committee:  meet the needs of individuals with hearing and speech impairments.  The main source of funds for this organization is the generous contributions of the Lions and Lions Clubs of District 2-T3.  El Paso Del Norte Lions perform hearing tests (lion members are certified) held throughout the city for businesses and schools throughout the year.

Sight:  We support the Lions for Vision and Lions Eye Health Foundation.  Both of these organizations are supported by a citywide program in partnership with all Lions Clubs of  El Paso.

Lions Scholar Fund (started 2014, total contribution to date, $8,000):  A $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a 9th, 10th or 11th grade student from Bowie, Jefferson or Austin with a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the year and has demonstrated humanitarian qualities through community service.   A scholarship is invested for his or her college education until graduation from high school and they are designated a Lions Scholar.  Winners can reapply annually.  The awards are paid directly to the four-year accredited institution of higher learning on their behalf.  The Fund is also meant to raise awareness of the importance of a higher education to younger students.  For more information please contact Grace Serna at cell:  (915) 373-4552 or email: lsernagv@yahoo.com

July 4 Independence Day:  Commemorate each year with a "People's Parade", which was started by the Del Norte Lions Club for El Paso in 1980. This parade has grown in size and participation due to the great involvement from people, organizations and businesses participating in the parade, providing donations to the club or simply enjoying the fun from the sidelines. This has become one of the summer's most anticipated events and has been used as a wonderful vehicle of exposure for the organizations and businesses who get involved.

Texas Lions Camp:  A state wide program in partnership with all Lions Clubs from the State of Texas to provide summer camping experience at no charge to children with medical conditions since 1949.  The camp is a 500 acre site located in Kerrville, Texas with a one-counselor to one-child ratio with doctors and nurses living on-site.  Go to http://www.lionscamp.com/ for more info or contact us.  To attend this camp you must apply through one of the El Paso Lions Club.

Christmas Food Baskets:  Every year we give away over 150 food baskets to families at Sacred Heart Church.

FUNDRAISERS

Casino Night:  An event for businesses and organizations who want to sponsor a fun night for their employees and families. We transport and quickly set-up blackjack tables, dice (craps) tables and a roulette wheel. Lion club members act as dealers and play money is used by the players to join on the casino night fun. This is a really fun night for us and all attendees!

Call Lion James Tapia (915) 873-7053 or Lion Armida Garcia (915) 867-5199 for more info or to schedule a Casino Night.

Mother's Day Roses:  Every year we sell 300 hundred dozen long stem roses.  Our club members deliver them free of charge!
