Lion President Roy Hurford has chosen MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT as the Clubs main fund raising project for our 50th year 2011/12 and WHIPTON Exeter's COMMUNITY HOSPITAL.

 

This year is Macmillan Cancer Support's centenary celebration and in 100 years has raised £1000's and help change 1000's of lives.

Cancer affects everyone and every day over 800 people in the UK will be told they have cancer and one in three of us will get cancer in our lives. Macmillan aims to be there for patients and thier families and carers throughtout their cancer experience, helping to make life easier through medical, emotional, financial and practical support.

 

 

Whipton Exeter's Community Hospital care for mainly older patients. Most are transfered from the R.D.& E. Hospital following an episode of acute care such as a medical emergency, operation, fall or fracture etc.

The average age of patients is 85 years. Care is often provided to patients with complex mental health needs, such as dementia alongside their co existent physical health problems.

 

The Club will also we providing funds for smaller local causes plus our own Lions projects  by helping our communities, both local, national and internationl.
