The Farmville Lions Club is a group of approximately seventy local men and women with a desire to serve both the local community and support the global goals of Lions International.
The Farmville Lions Club motto is WE SERVE.
Farmville Lions raise funds to support local, state and international causes with the focus on eyesight and hearing. Our major fundraising events are:

* Lions of Virginia Foundation Ticket Raffle
* Broom Sales
Farmville Lions collect and recycle used eyeglasses and you can help!
All types of glasses are needed - prescription, non-prescription, reading and sunglasses, and especially children’s eyeglasses. For a list of the collection sites, click on the Eyeglass Collection Sites box at left.
FARMVILLE LIONS HAVE A RICH HISTORY
The Farmville Lion Club was organized by Dr. J. L. Jarman, President of State Normal School (Longwood University) following a visit to the Lynchburg Lions Club. At that time the Lynchburg club, chartered November 14, 1921, was the oldest chartered club in Virginia.
The Farmville Lions Club was chartered by Lions International on June 23, 1923. The club was already functioning before the charter was received, and thirty-one active Lions became charter members. The charter was presented on January 17, 1924.
In 1923, The Farmville Lions Club had to establish its own priorities. There were no major service activities directed by Lions International. The club was a booster organization for development of community enterprises and fostering civic pride. When Farmville needed a new hotel, a new hospital, an airport, better roads, bonds for street improvement, road signs and statewide projects such as Virginia Historical Highways, the community turned to the Lions to help get these projects accomplished.
Farmville Lions work with the blind began around 1927 when the State Convention was held in Farmville and Helen Keller appeared in person to address the convention. Aiding the blind became one of the major service activities of Lionism. This service continues as Lions throughout the world raised over $140,000,000 in the recent "Sight First" campaign to help eradicate blindness. Our club collects old glasses to be recycled and to send to poor countries of the world. Today’s Lions are also actively work to help the hearing impaired. Farmville Lions also support other local community organizations.
Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
