BETWEEN THE LIONS

NEWSLETTER OF THE FARMVILLE LIONS CLUB

FEBRUARY 2012

Message from the President

Dear Fellow Lions,

I believe it was a past International Lions President that said Lions stands for: Loving Individuals Offering Needed Services – Perfect. Let’s live this mantra for all of 2012!

Membership is a priority! Please INVITE, INSPIRE and INVOLVE friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Make a commitment to invite a guest to a meeting.

For fundraising/service, please sign up for a committee if you are not already on one (or two). One opportunity is to volunteer to help at our exciting Winter Conference on February 18, held at Fuqua. This is a time to showcase our community and our club. We need every member in attendance, at least for part of the day. Sign up to greet, register, decorate, tend bar.

Another service idea I would like us to take on: visiting our Lions who are in assisted living facilities or who are home-bound. I know many of you do this already, but it would be wonderful for more of us to visit those Lions who can no longer make our meetings. Many were members for decades, and it is our turn to serve them. Look for another sign-up sheet coming around the lunch table!

Lots of service opportunities are available! Adding more keeps our interest and impact strong. Our hearing and sight guru, Lion Tom McBride will be stepping down form chairing the hearing committee this spring. This man walks the walk and talks the talk. He has dedicated his life to helping others, one at a time, to have better hearing and sight. We have big shoes to fill, but surely someone from our club shares that passion. Thanks, Lion Tom, for your incredible service to our community.

Personally, I look forward to working with each of you this year in helping to transform lives.

District 24B Winter Conference

Important, Informative, Fun!!

The Farmville Lions Club is proud to serve as host for the District 24B Winter Conference and Cabinet Meeting on Saturday, February 18 at Fuqua School. Events include a cabinet meeting, lunch, three different seminars, a reception and banquet. Spouses and significant others are cordially invited and can also attend a painting or jewelry class. The cost of a class is $25.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Lions to volunteer and help host the conference as well as attend. Please contact Lion Louisa by February 1 at 390-3283 or foxcat257@embarqmail.com. You don’t want to miss this major club event. Let’s show our fellow District 24B Lions how great it is to be a Farmville Lion!

Tails Untwisted . . . Lion Kerry Davis Mossler

Born in Dallas in 1963, Kerry spent much of her youth in the lake-front community of Clarksville where her parents are still active. Before joining CSCH, she graduated from Longwood/UVA, was an antiques dealer and a graphic designer in Longwood admissions. She has been the director of marketing/community relations/volunteers almost 8 years. Her children: Lara, age 22, an oil painter, graduated from Tulane University, lives in NYC, and is on the visual design team at Anthropologies at Rockefeller Center. Chris, age 21, has visited 12+ countries and is studying abroad this year. After graduation from Hampden-Sydney in May, he plans to teach English abroad. Husband Dan is a psychology professor at HSC.
