Meetings

The Funkstown Lions Club was chartered by Lions Clubs International on December 7, 1957. Charter President Ray Dinterman (r) accepted the Charter from District 22 officials.

For over 59 years, the Funkstown Lions Club has served the community through various fundraising projects such as Christmas Tree Sales, Ham & Oyster Dinners, Bingo Afternoons, "Quarter Auctions", French Fry Sales and Shrimp Dinner Bonanzas. In the past, we have been a leader when joining other Clubs for events such as a Weekend Seafood Festival. These projects have enabled the Club to build a picnic pavillion in the Town of Funkstown's Park as well as provide children's play equipment and a set of horseshoe pits. We are very proud of the funds that we have raised in support of a number of College Scholarships that have been awarded to dozens of young students. The Club is very active in its financial support of many local and regional projects and agencies, as well as those of Lions' District 22-W.

The Funkstown Lions Club is proud to still have one of our Charter Members active in the Club with over 59 years of perfect attendance. Lion Jack Welch, a Melvin Jones Fellow is the embodiment of the Lions Spirit in our Club.

The Multiple District Convention, held each Spring, is a rewarding and fun event for our Lions and their families, well attended in the past. This and other events and meetings throughout the year, provide an opportunity for learning about Lionism.

The Funkstown Lions Club is proud of its diverse membership. Over the years, our members have been active on many District Levels, holding numerous Zone and Regional offices and chairing a number of committees. Drawing members from the Funkstown area and other locales in Washington County, the Club is always interested in inviting community minded men and women to join with us and share in the satisfaction, pleasure and pride that comes when following the motto - "We Serve".

The members of the Club were excited and honored to welcome Past International President Clement F. Kusiak to our 50th Charter Night Celebration. PIP Clem rededicated our Charter and recognized our Charter Member, Lion Jack Welch. The event was well attended by our members, their families and friends and a number of special guests. We proud to offer on our website a photo of our membership with PIP Clem. Perhaps some of our younger members will be around to celebrate the 100th!
