GALESBURG SIMBA CLUB

The Galesburg SIMBA (Service Is My Best Activity) Club was created in the summer of 2009 as a means for the children of current Lions Club members to learn more about Lionism and the satisfaction of serving others. Membership is open to any child, ages 2-12, whose parent or guardian is a club member. With three new members inducted in the fall of 2010, the SIMBA roster is currently at 23 children!

SIMBAs participate in a variety of regular club events:

  • Helping to distribute candy on Candy Day
  • Setting the tables for our annual Pancake Festival
  • Singing carols and riding on the float in the Christmas Parade
  • Hosting special-needs children at our annual Holiday Party

"TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME" NIGHT

Tuesday, August 10 - Peoria, IL

Lions and SIMBAs traveled to Peoria for the Peoria Chiefs-Quad City River Bandits minor league baseball game. The game was held at O'Brien Field in Peoria. The club had 50 seats reserved in the left field pavilion area and vouchers for the kids to run the bases after the game. Unfortunately, rain and lightning shortened the game and prevented the base-running, but all in attendance enjoyed a fun evening of baseball, games and fellowship.

 ANNUAL LIONS FAMILY PICNIC

Sunday, September 29

SIMBAs and their family members attended the annual Lions Club picnic at Lake Storey Park. In addition to the usual games and prizes for the kids, a new class of SIMBAs was inducted as part of the evening's schedule.

 CHRISTMAS COOKIES

Sunday, November 28

SIMBAs and their parents participated in a group event hosted by Lions Rev. Dave and Rev. Sarah Parker at First Presbyterian Church. SIMBAs decorated 8 dozen cookies and created special holiday greeting cards. Cookies and cards were personally delivered to all Galesburg fire stations and the ambulance service headquarters in recognition of the services provided by area first responders. Children also decorated and designed individual cloth squares which will be sewn together to create the first SIMBA club banner.

PANCAKE DAY SETUP

Thursday, February 10

A few SIMBAs pitched in with adult club members to set up the dining room area at the First United Methodist Church in preparation for the annual Pancake Day fundraiser. Helping hands were needed with silverware, glasses, napkins and table cards to get ready for the next day's main event.
