April 2018

A donation of £90 was given by the club to allow the purchase of 12 tickets for some of the members of the RVS luncheon club to attend an event organised by Garstang Musicals  called ‘Only Remembered’ with songs to commemorate lives lost and changed by the First World War

A cheque for £50 has been given to Galloway’s Society for the Blind following the very informative talk given by Peter Howard (retired Optometrist) at the recent Lions Charter Dinner and with our special thanks going to him for doing this.

Another delivery was made in February to the Fylde Coast Women’s Aid central office for distribution to their various centres in the region. Once again , if you have any items to donate of new clothes ( babies /small children or ladies ); new toys, new cosmetic or new toiletry items then our collection point is the Resource Centre (the offices of the old Liberal Club) on Bridge Street.

The sponsored slimming event has started with ten members of the Lions or their spouses taking part The initial weigh was launched by Dr John on Tuesday 20th February and the final check on who has lost the most pounds will be done during the Lions Meeting on May 15th. All of the proceeds raised will be donated to local charities.

Lion Allan Townsend , a previous president of our club with 44 years service, was chosen to represent the Garstang Lions Club at the International Centenary reception at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 28th February. This was hosted by our patron , HRH,The Countess of Wessex G.C.V.O.and other members from across the British Isles joined him on this very special occasion. This was a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Lions Clubs International and 100 years of proud service to our communities.

As usual the Lions have delivered a batch of luxury Easter Eggs to various local public houses and other venues providing a chance for their customers to win one in a draw. Do look out for these and buy a slot on the card at a bargain price of only £1.00.

Several Lion members have again volunteered to collect monies for the Marie Curie daffodil appeal on both March 24 and 25th in the local Booths store.

One of our members is planning to cycle up Mt Teide in an event to be held in September to raise monies for Brian House and Donna’s Dream House .This arduous journey is over 23 miles long and with an average gradient of 6% starting out from Los Cristianos.

As always, the Lions would welcome in 2018 any new members or people interested in seeing what we do. Information is on the web site

Just speak to any member or come along to our meeting on the third Tuesday of the month in the Royal Oak at 8.00pm.
