Gastonia Evening Lions Club Foundation

The Foundation is administered by the members of the Gastonia Evening Lions Club, a subordinate club of the International Association of Lions Clubs. Contributions qualify for the charitable contribution deduction.

The Foundation provides funding for the programs and services offered by the Gastonia Evening Lions Club, including eye exams and eyeglasses for the uninsured and unemployed, community vision screenings, diabetes screenings, organ and tissue procurement, and funding research and the treatment of eye diseases.

The Foundation also provides financial support for Camp Dogwood, a recreational facility for the blind and visually impaired located at Lake Norman; Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina, a 140-acre campus at Lake Waccamaw that provides long-term residential care for at risk children; and the N.C. Lions VIP Fishing Tournament, an annual three-day fishing trip for the blind and visually impaired that is held on the Outer Banks.

The Foundation also provides financial support for youth programs, such as the Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest, youth camps, youth exchange programs, and the athletic program at Governor Morehead School for the Blind, the state’s only residential school for the blind. It provides funding for the John E. Willoughby Scholarship Program, which provides college scholarships to blind students or the child of a blind parent or guardian.

The Foundation also provides financial support for educational programs that focuses attention on the prevention and treatment of eye diseases, diabetes and protecting the environment.
