The Gloucester Lions Club conducted its first pre-school vision screening October 31 – November 4, 2011. The club used a PediaVision Screener to test vision at five Gloucester childcare/preschool facilities. During the week 173 children were screened, 19 of whom were referred to eye care professionals. PediaVision is powered by sophisticated technology that quickly detects the indication of the following vision issues: Near-sightedness (myopia), Far-sightedness (hyperopia), Unequal refractive power (anisometropia), Blurred vision/eye structure problem (astigmatism), Pupil size deviations (anisocoria), Amblyopia (lazy eye), and Eye misalignment (strabismus). Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
