Arbor Day will be celebrated on May 2nd this year (due to school vacation) when all the 4th grade students at the Mindess school will receive a tree to plant.  The students will become members of the Fourth Grade Foresters.  This project’s goal is to help revitalize an idea-observance of Arbor Day in America’s schools.

The Greater Ashland Lions have sponsored this program for the past three years “It’s a special feeling seeing how the students react when given the seeding and knowing that they will plant it and watch it grow” said members of the Greater Ashland Lions Club..

“This project is made possible because The Greater Ashland Lions that have purchased each of the individually packaged evergreen trees, so there is no cost to the students, teachers, the school or the community,” Debra Ersch, Cofounder of the Fourth Grade Foresters Project stated, “It’s a wonderful way to show support for the community, education and the environment.”

Fourth Grade Foresters USA was created to provide a simple and inexpensive way to send the 4th Grade students at  an elementary school home with a tree of their own to plant and care for.  Each student receives an individually packaged 12”-18” evergreen tree seedling packaged by workers with disabilities.

Now tree planting is even more important than ever. Trees take carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the atmosphere and clean the air we breathe, a simple, inexpensive and easy way to improve and give back to  our  Ashland Community.
