MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT  2009/10

Welcome to the Greely Lions web site. For our members, this is the place to find news on past and future activities of the Club. In particular you will find photos of our many social events and fund-raising drives.

For visitors to this site, I hope you find how important the Greely Lions are to our community. It is also my hope that you may want to be a part of this fine organization of the willing and able.

The Greely Lions Club was chartered in 1988 and over the past 21 years the Club has raised over $800,000 to support local needs and to make Greely an excellent place to live. When you walk the stone bridges at the Greely Community Centre, you can see the results of Lions in action. When you watch your children at play on the soccer fields and in the hockey rinks and on the ball diamonds and with the cubs, know that the Greely Lions support all of these youth activities. When your children attend elementary school and have a life threatening health condition, know that the Greely Lions entirely funds Medic-Alert bracelets. If your child needs a Medic-Alert bracelet, please inform the school administration.

About 70% of the money raised by the Lions goes to local charities or families, 20% goes to the wider community in Ontario and the balance helps national or international charities like the CNIB or tsunami relief in Asia. Whenever there is a need, the Lions are ready and able to help. In other sections of this web site you will find a complete outline of all the worthy causes supported by the Greely Lions.

We welcome request for assistance from any and all members of the community. If you think there is an unmet need in our community, please let us know. Unfortunately, the demands on our resources often exceed our ability to fund everything but we strive to satisfy the most pressing and most relevant.

Fortunately, the Greely Lions Club is not entirely about raising money. Equally important, it is an organization with many social activities for its members and their families and friends. We enjoy fun golf tournaments, dinners out, curling bonspiels, and participate extensively in Cabaret and the Greely Players. It is safe to say that the Greely Lions are at the forefront of the social life of the community. As a testament to the vitality of the organization, one only has to know that almost all of the men who formed this club 21 years ago are still active and engaged members.
