Welcome.

Within the first six months of existence, the Hartford Saint Lucian Lions Club continues to roar as they grace the community with their presence. Chartered in May 2013, with a record breaking 103 members, the Hartford Saint Lucian Lions have embarked on a few life changing projects.

In August this year, the club hosted a Back to School Drive on behalf of My Sister’s Place, a shelter located in Hartford Connecticut, for women and their children, forced into the streets as a result of domestic violence, eviction, unemployment or mental illness. The Hartford Saint Lucian Lions club was able to assist approximately thirty five families by donating over 5,000 items of back to school supplies with the inclusion of school bags, gym bags, notebooks, erasers, pencils, pens, glue sticks, folders, rulers, highlighters, markers, index cards, etc.

The Hartford Saint Lucian Lions Club also participated in the annual Making Strides Walk held by the American Cancer Society at Bushnell Park in Hartford, CT on Sunday, October 20th. Among the 415 teams and approximately 5,000 participants, the Hartford Saint Lucian Lions donated almost $2,000 to help find, prevent, treat and cure breast cancer. According to the statistics provided by the American Cancer Society, a $100 contribution helps guide two women facing cancer through every step of their journey, therefore equating that the contribution of the Hartford Saint Lucian Lions were able to impact the lives of at least forty women.

As this new club continues to live up to the Lions motto ‘We serve’ the group has decided to undertake its first major project before year end. “A recent study by Dr. Ken Earl, a British medical expert shows that more than 7,000 Saint Lucians are diabetic and that the island has the fastest growing number of diabetics across the nine-member sub-regional Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)”. As a result, on December 14, the group will be hosting a Saint Lucia National Day Gala event at the Gallery in Glastonbury, CT in which proceeds will go towards providing educational material, equipment and ancillary supplies to the Ministry of Health in Saint Lucia to help eradicate childhood diabetes.

The Hartford Saint Lucian Lions have only just begun!
