Welcome to Helena Gold Rush Lions

The Helena Gold Rush Lions Club works to benefit people in the greater Helena area with special emphasis on the youth of our community. The first priority of the Gold Rush Lions is to assure that the sight and hearing needs of our community are met. We have provided eye examinations and glasses for numerous students in the community, directed families to the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation and contributed to the cost of vision therapy.

Other fund-raising efforts have benefited multiple community agencies, including: Big Brothers & Sisters, Florence Crittenton Home, The Friendship Center, God’s Love, Intermountain Children’s Home, 4-H, the Salvation Army, Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Helena Food Share, the YMCA and Helena Youth Basketball. The club donates approximately $4000 every year to these worthwhile causes. In addition, we support community projects with our service including Intermountain Festival of Trees, CASA Walk for Kids, Bowl for Kids Sake and Sight Night. We also provide a yearly Lions Legacy Scholarship to a person attending the University of Montana, Helena College of Technology.

The Gold Rush Lions are a part of Lions Club International, whose motto is “We serve.”  The mission statement of Lions Clubs International, which has 1.3 million members in 200 countries, is “To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation.”

"The only way the world will heal is if we heal it. No one will save us but us. No guru or prophet or hero will save us. Only we can save us. Only we reach for each other one by one and say I see you, I am here for you, I witness you, I give you me. Only we can defeat the savage and greedy among us, in each of us. We will win the war by surrendering what is best in us to those who need exactly what we have. Every hour you give from your heart is a thousand hours in another. Beneath all religions, all nationalities, all ethnicities, all polities, all history, there is only us, always children, always struggling to shuck the selfish and sing the generous. Every hour you give from your heart is a hammer ringing against the ancient greedy bloody wall that obscures the brilliant gate. The Lions are hammering down the wall, every day, every hour, all of the world. Someone ought to pause, here and there, and bow, and say, quietly, while beginning to weep with gratitude for the millions of children you made smile, and say thank you."

-Brian Doyle, Lions International Magazine, December 2012
