What is a committee and its purpose?

The High Point Lions Club is a multi-faceted group of individuals with many skills and talents that can be utilized to make the club stronger than ever before. Because of this broad spectrum of talent in our club, we have committees. A committee is a group of individuals who have similar interests and who believe that, when working together, they can successfully achieve and take ownership of a common goal.

Committee Names and Descriptions

The High Point Lions Club has four (4) committees for the year 2016-2017. Those committees and a brief description are listed below.

• Finance Committee is responsible for the finances of the High Point Lions Club.

• Programs Committee organizes programs for the High Point Lions Club meetings. They will obtain speakers and programs for each of our meetings. At least 6 programs per year will be Lions-oriented (fostering Lions initiatives) and the rest will be programs of interest to Lions from memebrs of the community.

• Sight and Hearing Conservation Committee is the arm of the club that handles requests for assistance. This committee works with the Department of Social Services to reach people needing assistance. It also works with community clinics to assist people with getting eye exams and glasses at no cost to them. The Sight and Hearing Conservation Committee has been working with school nurses for 30 years to reach children that need glasses through the school eye program. The hearing conservation program intakes requests for hearing aids, completes referrals to the North Carolina Lions Club leadership, which in turn deals directly with the requesting individual. The club does pay for hearing tests, but at a discounted price.
