An initiative taken for special children of Shishu Sarathi, a School for students of Cerebral Palsy and differently-abled children by Lions Club of Guwahati Kamrupa by starting a Library as Permanent Project “Suresh Khemka Memorial Lions Kamrupa Library” in memory of Club’s Chartered President on 22nd September 2012. This Library if opened under the theme Reading Action Program(RAP) of International President Wayne Madden challenging Lions to participate in the Reading Action Program to focus on increasing literacy and access to learning resources through their service.
Literacy -- the ability to read and write-- is the foundation for education and social development. The Reading Action Program is a call to action for every Lions club around the world to organize service projects and activities that underscore the importance of reading and address specific needs related to illiteracy within their own community.
The Club has acknowledge the idea and put it into the reality by starting a Library by providing the Furniture and books worth more than 1.50 Lacs and the Club has assured that every year the Club will provide assistance to this Suresh Khemka Memorial Lions Kamrupa Library to the tune of Rs.25000 towards books and journals to keep the Library updated.
The Library has been inaugurated by District Governor Lion D. C. Roy. Lion Sudhir Choudhary, President of the Club has thanked Leaders & Members of Lions fraternity and Mr. Arman Ali, Director and Monidipa Choudhury of Sishu Sarothi who were very co-operative in making this library take shape. Program Chairman Lion Sumit Jalan, who worked hard to open this Library in record time by mobilizing all the resources, thanked his club members for reposing faith on him. Members & Lions Dignitaries present on the opening ceremony were Lion L N Agarwala, Lion Ramesh Agarwala, Lion Deoki Jogani, Lion Navin Kasera, Lion Natwar Nagori, Lion Ashok Kumar Agarwala, Lion Dr. Ajay Saraf, Lion Ranjay Kanoi, Lion Rajesh Agarwala, Lion Debastuti Sharma, Lion Saroj Jain, Lion Sangita Jain, Lion Sangita Jajodia, Lion Rishi Saraf, Lion Rajiv Gupta, Lion Rajiv Dutta etc.
