Thoppur is an ill fascilated area in Nothern Sri Lanka and was badly affected by the ethnic conflict as well as the civil war. It is mainly inhabited by Muslims and Tamils. There was a hospital but there was no single medical officer (doctor) to lookafter patients. A specialist had never visited that area.

 On this background, Lions Club of Kanthale Heroes proudly came forward to hold a surgical clinic done by Lion Dr. S.S.Edirimuni, Consultant Surgeon attached to the Base Hospital, Kanthale. In this historic clinic, over 100 surgical patients were seen and 56 cases were selected for surgeries. These surgeries were performed in 6 sessions at the Base Hospital, Kanthale.
