History

Our club was chartered by the Kelowna-Rutland Lion Club on March 14th 1977.  We started with 30 members, presently we have 19 members.

Fund Raising

Since 1977 our Club has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. The fundraisers have included; Raffles (including cars and groceries), Lotteries (Grey Cup and Super Bowl pools), Mint Sales, Garage Sales, co-sponsored the RCMP Musical Ride and finally Direct Grants from the Province of BC Gaming Funds.

Today, our major fundraiser is our concession trailer. We will put on pancake breakfasts, and hot dog and hamburger lunches.  If you are interested in having us serve at your event, please give us a call.

 Spending the Funds

All funds raised are returned to the community.  We support BC Lions Society Easter Seals Camp Winfield (a local camp for children with disabilities), Kelowna Gospel Mission, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the Alzheimer's Society, and Lions of BC Hearing Society, to name a few.  We participate in international relief efforts via the Lions Clubs International Foundation, which provides immediate assistance to areas struck by disaster.

Community Service

We spend time in our community volunteering at a variety of different projects.  We continue to keep the grounds at Easter Seals Camp Winfield, our club initiated the "Adopt-a-Road" program in Kelowna (no longer in progress), and now participate in the City of Kelowna Adopt-a-Stream program on Bellevue Creek between the shores of Okanagan Lake and The Ponds. We spend time in Seniors' Facilities (Cottonwoods, David Lloyd Jones, and Three Link Manors), griddling pancakes, grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for lunches, assisting at bingo, gardening. We help out wherever we can to make our community a better place.

Our club is always looking for enthusiastic new members. If you are interested we would love to introduce you to volunteering with a roar!!!
