 History

Our club was chartered by the Kelowna-Rutland Lion Club on April 30th 1977.  We started with 30 members, presently we have 36 members.

We have in turn chartered two club's in our zone.  The Kelowna Lioness Club in 1985, and the Kelowna-Orchard City Lions Club in 1990.

Fund Raising

Since 1977 our Club has raised hundred of thousands of dollars. The fundraisers have included; Raffles (including cars and groceries), Lotteries (Grey Cup and Super Bowl pools), Mint Sales, Garage Sales, and co-sponsored the RCMP Musical Ride.

Today, our major fundraiser is our concession trailer. We will put on pancake breakfasts, and hot dog and hamburger lunches.  If you are interested in us serving at your event, please give us a call.

 Spending the Funds

All funds raised are returned to the community.  We support Camp Winfield (a local camp for children with disabilities), Kelowna General Hospital (purchasing needed equipment and medical supplies), the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Southern Interior Cancer Clinic, the Alzheimer's Society, and BC Lions Hearing, to name a few.  We participate in international relief efforts via the Lions Clubs International Foundation, which provides immediate assistance to areas struck by disaster.

Community Service

We spend time in our community volunteering at a variety of different projects.  We continue to keep the grounds at Camp Winfield, our club initiated the "Adopt-a-Road" program in Kelowna, and continue to clean up twice a year along Gordon Drive. We spend time in Seniors Facilities (Cottonwoods, David Lloyd Jones, and Three Link Manors), grilling pancakes, barbequeing hamburgers for dinners, assisting at bingo. We help out wherever we can to make our community a better place.

The club is always looking for enthusiastic new members. If you are interested we would love to introduce you to volunteering with a roar!!!
