The Lions Frosty 5K Run for Sight & Hearing will return to Mt. Trashmore city park for it’s fifth annual fund raising event.
Former race director and committee chairman, Lion Lewis Falls, was enthusiastic about returning to the event’s original venue.
Planned renovations at the city park in 2013 forced the committee to seek a new venue for their race. It was decided to move to the Sportsplex, Virginia Beach’s soccer stadium and centerpiece of the city’s sports and fitness facility at Princess Anne. Among the several benefits of hosting the race at Sportsplex was the easier scheduling process, a less-obvious but greatly appreciated aspect of planning the event. The staff at Sportsplex could commit to a date a full year out, whereas city parks like Mt. Trashmore couldn’t be reserved until November for the following year… a potential problem when you’re hosting a race in January. The committee couldn’t move forward with its plans until confirming the date. Anxious Lions were calmed when committee chair Lion Dave Booz reported success in reserving the park for January 24, 2015.
This year, as in the past, the event offers a 5-kilometer, professionally timed race, 5K walk and 1-mile fun run. New for 2015 is its first-ever “Cub Run” for children. No advanced registration is necessary for the cubs; moms and dads can sign up their little ones on race day. With the new course mapped out and shelters reserved the committee is poised to put on its best race ever. The committee encourages all Lions to invite friends and family to participate in this «frosty» fun-filled event. Food, beverages and runner snacks will be provided for all paid participants. Door prizes will also be awarded and members of the public ae asked to contact the committee for sponsorship opportunities. Also new this year is the ability for non-participants to make online donations in support of a runner or walker of their choice.
It’s going to be a great time!
