From the 17th of May to the 30th of June 2021, books will be able to be received for sorting for the 52nd Book Sale, to be held at the Taroona Shopping Centre on 9th, 10th &  the 11th of July 2021 starting at 9am, closing at 3pm (on Sunday 2pm).

Thousands of books are donated by people wanting to clear out their bookshelves.  These are sorted by Kingborough Lions Members & helpers and set out for sale.  Most of the books are fiction (and some very new too) but other categories include Animals, Biographies, Business, Children, Craft, Food wine & diet, Garden, History, Architecture, Humour, Military, Science, Sport, Transport & Travel.  So, as you can see, there is are books for everyone.

Please do not donate medical books, encyclopedias, magazines, schoolbooks, broken books, bibles, National Geographic, used children’s colouring books or paper-back Reader’s Digests. Unfortunately, we can’t sell these, so they will need to go into your recycle bin.

From the 17th of May to 30th June only, books can be left at the Old Supermarket, in the Taroona Shopping Centre on Tuesdays between 10-12 or Thursdays between 2-4.  Or from the 17th of May to the 30th of June, books in boxes can be left in the carport at 2 Taroona Cres, Taroona any time during the day. If you need boxes, we can give you some at Taroona, just ask!

Please phone Alan Pretyman (0417 528 463), Sue Johns (0409 442 593) if you need help with collecting your books.

Taroona Shopping Centre is on the Channel Highway at Taroona.

The way books are sold at the Taroona Book Sale is quite unique.  Instead of individually pricing each book, they are sold by the height.  That is, the books are placed on their side and measured against a yard-stick.  At the cost of 70c per centimetre there are bargains galore in this book sale.

Brief history -  2021  Taroona Book Sale

This event Started in 1969 and was initially run for 35 years by the Ladies Guild of St Luke’s Church, Taroona.  It was run for a fund-raiser for the Clarendon Children’s Home, Kingston.

In 2004 the Taroona Book Sale was run by the Taroona High School to raise much needed funds for the High School.

In 2013 The Sandy Bay Lions Club took over the Book Sale and raised funds for Community Projects.

In 2015 The Kingborough Lions Club continued the Book Sale.  So far, KLC have raised over $27,000 for Lions Community Service Projects. 100% of monies raise by the Lions Clubs go to needed causes.  No money is kept for administration purposes.  We Lions give our time freely so that our communities may benefit from our actions and funds raised. So, come and update your library from the  Book Sale.
